THE COMPETITIONS.

Two S cholar ship Classes. Two scholarship classes were judged at the Competitions to-day. This morning the first section of the class for men was heard. There are thirtysix entries, including nine tenors, nineteen baritones and eight bass voices. The own selection solos will be heard to-morrow afternoon. At the afternoon session, the second section of the scholarship for women, 21 and over, was judged. To-morrow will be the last day of the preliminary classes. In the morning at the Civic Theatre, the items are piano sight reading, man or woman; piano solo, own selection, man or woman; and violin solo, own selection, any age. Commencing on Thursday evening, a series of concerts by prizewinners will be given. The festival will conclude on Saturday with a matinee and an evening programme.
