A Playground.
Richmond Site to be Purchased.
THE CITY COUNCIL last evening decided to accept the offer of the Minister of Education to sell to the council the Richmond old school site for a children’s playground for the sum of £2250. The sum of £IOOO is to be paid within one year, and the payment of the balance is to be spread over a period of 3 r ears, and to bear interest at the rate of 4 per cent yearly. The Finance Committee, in recommending that the offer be accepted, stated that there was a sum of £450 available for the. purchase of reserves which could be used, and the balance of £IOOO would probably be found by the sale of some of the 5 per cent reserves. If the offer was accepted, it would be necessary to provide £550 on the current year’s estimates until such time as the reserves were sold. The balance of the purchase money, £1250, could be spread over, say, five years by providing £250 a year plus interest on the estimates each year. _____
