LONSDALE COMEDY.

“ Just Smith ” Sparkles With Brilliant Dialogue. Two famous screen stars, Claudette Colbert and Clark Gable, appear together for the first time in “ It Happened One Night,” the featured film at the Regent Theatre this week. Comedy predominates in this bright story although there is strong romantic interest. The supporting programme includes one of the Bobby Jones series, “ How to Break 90.” “Just Smith,” which will be the headline attraction at the Regent Theatre on Saturday, sparkles from beginning to end. It is one of Frederick Lonsdale’s brightest stories and provides Tom Walls with an excellent role as a light-fingered crook, who likes the ladies but prefers to collect their superfluous wealth. Walls is in his best form, his rapier wit and delightful insouciance making him one of the finest * personality-actors in British films. Theatregoers will see him as Smith, a mystery man, mixing with the “ bset people ” on the Riviera and soon appreciate his interest in their wealth. Ilis fellow-conspirator, a Mr Mortimer, is a supposedly well-to-do man with a }*acht (a part splendidly played by Hartley Power) and they inveigle a rich American snob and her daughter to stay aboard their yacht. The daughter (delightfully played by Carol Goodner) instead of falling for the title so carefully caught by her mother, falls in love with Smith. Typical Frederick Lonsdale wit scintillates through the whole picture. The supporting cast includes Anne Grey, Eva Moore, Peter Gawtorne and Reginald Gardner. Box plans at the D.I.C.
