Results of Games at Greymouth.
UNITED BEAT COBDEX. (Special to the “Star.”) GREYMOUTH, May 5. At Rugby Park, in an exciting and fast-moving game. United, making their first appearance for the season, defeated Cobden, 14-7. The United rearguard played brilliant football. Vincent, the ex-CanUrbury half-back, at first fiveeighths, and Gilbert, at full-back, were outstanding. Gilbert’s line and place kicking was remarkable. Gilbert kicked a wonderful penalty from half-way. Cobden had the ball from the great majority of the scrums, but their backs displayed little combination, although there were some outstandingly good individual runs. The Cobden defence whs sound. Scorers for United were Jamieson and Schroder. Gilbert kicked two penalties and converted one trv. For Cobden. Garring scored a try and King dropped a goal. Blaketown seniors triumphed over Star on the B ground at Rugby Park by 10 points to nil, tries being scored by H. Scott and Moonnee, whilst Negri converted both. Scott scored as the result of following up. whilst Moonee was responsible for a good solo eftor*. accepting a cross-kick from Pascoe to run under the posts. The game was chiefly of a forward nature, both sets of backs failing to combine. The Blaketown forwards, being the heavier set, predominated for the greater part.
