THE COMPETITIONS.

A Bright Entertainment Arranged. A popular programme has been arranged for the opening night of the Competitions to-morrow at the Civic Theatre, commencing at 7.30 prompt. Present indications are that the theatre will be well filled, a contributing factor being the decision to reduce the admission charges to a shilling for adults and sixpence for children. The society has put several of the new classes on this opening programme. Three ladies will compete in the class for “ popular song,” and there will be a one-act play and a ballet by twelve or more performers. Other items that are sure to please will be the finals in boys’ humorous recitation, boys’ and girls’ recitation in character, boys’ and girls’ song in character, and the first section of the humorous character sketch for adults. Character songs by adults, character dancing by children, and instrumental trios will make up a very interesting evening’s entertainment. The Mayor will open the session.
