Radiant Beauty.
Nature Notes
By James Drummond. F.L.S., F.Z.S. LOVELY MOTH is described by Mr G. V. Hudson, of Wellington, as probably the most magnificently coloured insect in New Zealand. Yellow, pink and crimson are its dominant colours. Mr E. Meyrick, an English entomologist, who saw thousands of species of moths and butterflies, put down his impressions of this New Zealand species in the following words:— “ I took seven specimens in dense growth in a swampy forest near Hamilton, on the Waikato River. New Zealand insects usually are rather sombre, and I shall not forget the emotion with which, in the depths of the forest shades, I saw this lovely insect, whose ethereally pure hues cause it to be one of the most wonderful manifestations of the beauty of Nature." Too modest and rare to have a popular name, the species bears only its official title, Parectopa miniella.
