POLAR EXPEDITION.

Wyatt Earp to Leave in September. When Mr Lincoln Ellsworth leaves for the south again on the Wyatt Earp about the beginning of next September, he will be accompanied by Sir Hubert Wilkins, who has been spending some time in Dunedin superintending the reconditioning of the vessel. Sir Hubert passed through Christchurch last night on his way to the United States and England on a hurried trip before returning for the expedition. He will sail from Auckland by the Monterey. vSir Hubert said his plans were, on returning to Dunedin, to leave with the vessel and go across to South America to pick up Mr Ellsworth at Puerto Montt, in Chile. From there they would go down to Deception Island, and it was hoped that the flight across to the Ross Sea would be made early in November. “If all goes well we shall return to Dunedin in February next,” he added. The plans for the expedition have now been modified, and the intention is to begin the Polar flight at a point south of Deception Island and on the edge of the Weddell Sea, and will be made across to Rear-Admiral Richard E. Byrd’s camp at Little America.
