HOUSING IN BRITAIN.
British Official Wireless. RUGBY. May 2. The Minister of Health, Sir Hilton Young, stated in the House of Commons that in the six months that ended on March 31, 140,000 houses had been built in Britain. The causes of that increased building included lower costs and rising confidence, including the stability of economic conditions and the cessation of competition from slum building. The subsidy for clearing slums and reducing over-crowding had removed the barrier, he said, and had greatly stimulated private building enterprise.
