Wright has received the following cabled report on the Colombo tea auction of May I:—At yesterday’s auction of 2,310,0001 b. common teas were firm to dearer, while all other grades advanced two to three cents. There are 2,610,0001 b catalogued for the sale next week. LONDON MEAT PRICES. The Bank of Australasia has received the following cable, dated May 2, from London: —” New Zealand lambs: Hardening tendency for light-weights, but heavy-weights rather weaker; demand good, values likely to remain steady for some time, especially for light-weights. The contractor for the Maori Gully dredge advises that a start has been made with the erection of huts for the men, and the dredge site is being cleared of scrub.
