R.S.A. CHOIR’S CONCERT

Good Solo Work a Feature of Programme. The R.S.A. Choir gave its opening concert of the season last evening at the Jcllico'e Hall before a lafge audience. During this year, under Mr \ icto* 1 Peters, the choristers have shown a decided improvement. Although not many in numbers they are an entnuaiostic bund of men. who put plenty ol vim into their singing. This being shown in “Land of Hope and Glory’ and “Britain, Ask of Thyself." both by Elgar. The tonal quality was rather robust and would have been better lor a little more light and shade. Mr A. W - Hcllinguin was the soloist in tlve latter number. Effective choral work was done in Miss Ellis Fraser’s solo, 11 Maureen,” the humming part making a nice background Edward German’s dainty and tuneful part songs, “Sleeping.” “O Peaceful Night ” and “Love’s Old Sweet Song,” arranged by Robert M'Leod. were praiseworthy njimbers. Tire final part song, “The Viking Song” (ColeridgeTaylor). made a rousing number. Tho programme benefitted by some good solo work, especially that given by Miss Cecilv Audibert, Miss Aileen Warren and Miss Kathleen Bond. Miss Audibert was in splendid voice and sang her solos “ Villanelle ” and “ Ballatella with charm and good voice control. For a deserved encore she gave “ Sylvelin.” Miss Warren played “Valse Caprice ” (Barnett) tastefuly, although tho piano did not assist her very much. Mrs Bervl Windsor pleased the audience with her humorous recitations, while Mr F. R. Hawker sang “The Torrent ” and “ Young Tom o* Devon. Master George Hartley, who has a^moloSvHda ? S ’’ ,11 an'l° “ Dima!” “ Should He Upbraid?” suited Miss Frances Clark’s soprano voice. Miss Bond, who has been in Dunedin for some time, save ample proof that slve had her voice under proper control. She was most sympathetic In her solo, " How Changed th Mlss &1 'Warren played the accompaniments tastefully.
