Improvements Shown on Easy Track.

Although the track at Alexandra Park was slightly holding for the Auckland Trotting Club’s autumn meeting on Saturday, most of the winners and place-getters went faster than handicapped to do, the exceptions being the horses in the best-class races. The greatest improvement was shown bv the three-year-olds Ringtrue .and Kewpie’s King, who finished first and second in the Devonport Handicap, both going a shade over I2sec better than their handicaps. Following are details of the performances: ImHandi- provecap. Tim 3. ment. li MILES.

DR. RING FINED. Plea to Escape Conviction Fails. SYDNEY, May 2. On the eve of his return to New Zealand after having operated on the racehorses Deep Respect and Koda Pen to cure them of “ roaring,” Dr W. C. Ring, of Auckland, was sub poenated to attend the Central Sum mons Court to-day. The information contained in the subpoena dealt with that section of the regulations requiring any person to be registered by the Veterinary Surgeons’ Board of New South Wales before practising in that State. Dr Ring was fined £3 with 10s costs. Dr Ring’s solicitor asked that no conviction should be recorded under the special section of the Act, saying that the operations were performed solely owing to the lifelong friendship between Dr Ring and Mr J. T. Jamieson. Similar operations performed in New Zealand had been successful. The Magistrate declined to release defendant, saying that he knew the law and had accepted a fee for the operations.
