AUCKLAND MILK SUPPLY.
Women Protest Over Price Increase. The matter of the city’s milk supply came up for discussion at a meeting of the Auckland branch of the National Council of Women last evening. The president, Mies F.llen Melville, presided. Notices of motion were received from the associate members and the Problem Club, and these were accorded urgency. The Problem Club’s motion stated, “That this society thinks it is detrimental to the health of the community, and in particular to young children, that the proposed increase in the price of milk be imposed on the public,” and the co-operation of the National Council was nought in any protest that might be made. Mrs. Alfred Kidd said that the increase of price was far-reaching in its effects, and she thought it was most important that women should take some action. It was a very serious matter to the Hospital Board, which was providing milk free to a large number of people receiving charitable aid. The increase in expenditure would amount to a large sum, which would be a severe drain on its resources. This was only one of hundreds of case 3 ir. the toAvn. Some jjcople had been forced to give up fresh milk. It was decided finally that the council should ask the co-operation of the Primary School Committees’ Association and the Chamber of Commerce in organising a public meeting, at which members of the Milk Council would be asked to srive addresses.
