WORK FOR CITY BOYS.
Efforts of Auckland Committee. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, May 3. Last year the Boys’ Employment Committee found country jobs for 000 city boys, the majority cf whom, it :s believed, would otherwise have become a charge on the city’s charitable organisations. It is estimated that the j committee has thus saved the com- i munity about £12.000. The annual i meeting, held last evening, was attended by the president. Sir Joseph Smith, the secretary and fifteen others, although 60 prominent citizens had been invited to come and hear of the committee’s work and its intentions. “ You should not be disappointed at the small attendance.” remarked the Mayor (Mr G. W. Hutchison). “I have learned that the more you do the less people appreciate you. Had you r-'t been carrying out your work in the way the public approved, you would have had many more here tonight.” A mother present remarked that all those who had turned up were extremely busy men.
