DARING THIEVES.

Office Ransacked and Safe Blown Open. SMALL SUM STOLEN. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, May 3. An audacious burglary was carried out last night in a laundry company’s premises in Sussex Street. The burglars levered a sliding door off its rails to gain entrance. They then carried a small safe from the office and down a flight of six steps into the factory. They could have been seen by any passer-by through a glass window. They removed the safe 160 feet across the factory floor, using a truck for the purpose, and then carried it down into the electric fuse room, which has a concrete floor. There they burst it open with an explosive, removed the money it contained, and departed through the back door. While in the office they ransacked every drawer and strewed the contents on the floor. The safe contained only petty cash, about £5 in all.
