DAIRY COMMISSION.
Report to Receive Urgent Consideration. The report of the Dairy Commission, which is to be ready by June 16, will be one of the first matters to be considered by Parliament when it assembles towards the end of June, according to a statement by the Prime Minister (the Rt Hon G. W. Forbes) in an interview in Christchurch to-day Mr Forbes said that the question of a quota for the export of New Zealand dairy produce to Great Britain, and the Dominion’s position on the T ’~?!ish market, was now a matter for the Government, the control of the industry having been taken out of the hands of the Dairy Board, The quota question would not directly concern the commission. Secretaries Appointed. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 27. The announcement that Professor W. Riddet, of Massey Agricultural College, and Mr E. J. Fawcett, of the Department of Agriculture, had been appointed to act as secretaries to the Royal Commission which is to investigate the dairy industry, was made this evening by the Minister of Agriculture (the Hon C. E. Macmillan). The commission will hold its first sitting on Monday week. Order of Reference. Per Press Association. ELTHAM, April 2S. Holding that the Government was dodging the main issue and staving off the evil day, the Eltham Progress Committee resolved to telegraph to the Prime Minister supporting the request of Mr C. A. Wilkinson, M.P., for the inclusion of dairy finance, with particular reference to land and stock mortgages, in the order of reference for the Dairy Industry Commission. The meeting was of the opinion that the stabilisation of land values was an essential step towards economic recovery.
