“ Les Cloches de Corneville ” Starts To-morrow.

Patrons are reminded that the box plans for the Christchurch Operatic Scciety’s season are now open at the D.I.C. Seats for the matinee and evening performance to-morrow may be reserved after twelve o’clock noon on Saturday by calling at the St James Theatre or on telephone 35-820. Rehearsals of this bright comic opera are proceeding more than satisfactorily there is a “finish” about the work that is quite unusual in non-professional companies, and the producer, musical director and ballet mistress are being warmly commended upon the results of their careful and thorough tuition. Nearly everyone knows that “ Les Cloches de Corneville ” is a bright and colourful opera based on a romance of Breton peasant and fisherfollc, and that in itsell suggests endless possibilities of characterisation, beautiful settings, quaint costuming, pretty country dances and elaborate ballets. The cast includes many of the most popular stage artists in Christchurch, and the production promises to be of a uarticularly high standard. The season commences with to-morrow’s matinee and evening performance, and will continue until the following Saturday.
