CONNIE EDISS DEAD.
Famous Actress Who Visited N.Z. in 1916. LONDON, April 19. Connie Ediss, the a tress, died today at the age of sixty-two. Connie Ediss, famous London Gaiety Theatre actress, was born at Brighton in August, 1871. After playing in provincial productions from the age of twelve, she gained a great success in 1893 at a London music-hall as a singer and dancer. She first appeared on the regular stage in 1896 in “ The Shop Girl.” Her brightness, vivacity and humour at once made her a favourite with the Gaiety audiences. After a tour of Australia and New Zealand in 1916 she restricted her engagements to leading London productions. In November, 1933, while preparing to appear in another play, she was attacked by serious heart trouble, and was taken to University College Hospital. In spite of the fact that she was sixtv-two. and had been acting for fifty years, she declared in the bright spirit which had made her famous that as soon as the doctors permitted, she would be back on the stage.
