TIMARU WOOL SALE.
Many Passings in First Catalogue. (Special to the ** Star.’*) TIMARU. April 27. Three-quarter and half-bred wools suffered most at the third and final wool sale of the season held in Timaru this afternoon. Tnere was a big percentage of passings on the first catalogue. but it is believed that much of this will be disposed of privately after the sale. An offering of 2100 bales is rather better than usual at the end of the season and there was seme competition for fine sorts between Continental and Dominion mills, with Bradford buying very little. German buyers were in the market for some of the choicest lots and France captured most of the attractive pieces in the first big catalogue offered. Half-bred sold to 19d, compared with 202 d at the second sale on February 9, and 18|d at Wellington on Monday. Three-quarter-bred brought up to 14d compared with 19}d at the Februarv sale, and cro|s-bred 83d, compared with 16}d. Prices for pieces were also down on the last sale, but a remarkable feature was that odd lots of fine fleece wool brought more than they had been passed for at the February sale. There were a good many gaps in the buyers’, benches and a small attendance of the public watched a sale that was very much lacking in spirit.
