SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
Amendment to Education Act Criticised. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, April IS. The action of the Minister in r mending the Education Act whereby school committees are elected for a period of two years was strongly criticised at a recent meeting of the executive of the School Committees’ Association of. Otago. Members generally felt that due regard had not been given to the resolutions passed by the South Island Federation and Dominion Federation of School Committees' Associations, which advocated annual elections with one-' half of the members of a committee retiring annually, with the privilege of offering themselves for re-election. The restoration of the optional entrance of children at the age of five years to State schools was again considered. The question was freely discussed, members being of opinion that a number of children were being lost to the State schools, with a probability that, even when they reached six years of age, their education would be continued In sectarian schools. It was decided to seek the opinions and support of householders on the two questions at the annual meetings on Monday
