OBSOLETE SHIPS.
British Policy to be Stated Shortly. MODERN VESSELS NEEDED. British Official Wireless. (Received April 19, 11.30 a.m.) RUGBY, April 18. In the House of Lords the Government was asked what steps were proposed to assist the scrapping of obsolete cargo vessels and their replacement by modern ships. Lord Templemore, in reply, said that the Government was giving serious attention to this important question. Although trade and industry were improving there were two black spots—shipbuilding and coal. He was authorised to say that while it was not possible to make a specific announcement, the lion Walter Runciman hoped to be in a position to make a statement on the subject in the House of Commons shortly.
