PORT OF KAIAPOI.

Meeting of Waimakariri Harbour Board. The Waimakariri Harbour Board met at Kaiapoi last night, Mr ,T. Hirst presiding. The chairman of the Harbour Committee reported that the dredge had lifted a quantity of shingle at the wharf. Further dredging was required at the junction of the north and south branches, and the committee recommended that this work should be carried out. The report was adopted and it was decided that the shingle be offered to the Kaiapoi Borough Council at 2s 6d per yard. It was decided to write to the Waimakariri River Trust suggesting that arrangements be made for cleaning out the accumulation of rubbish and weeds from the upper readies of the river. The Marine Department, Wellington, wrote advising that represent!!tions had been received by the Department that the leading beacons at the entrance to the river had on occasions been placed in the wrong position, with the result that the scow Ngahau grounded. It was suggested that it would be in the Interests of the board that the nautical adviser to the Department visit Kaiapoi with a view to advising on this question and any other nutters on which the board might require advice or assistance.
