The Board of Trade figures for March compared with the corresponding period for the previous year are as follows : Imports £61.989,000 Exports £33,068,000 Re-exports £5,631,000 The principal increases were: Imports— Wood and timber .... £648,000 Raw cotton £690,000 Wool , £309,000 Seeds and nuts for oil, etc £438,000 Hides and skins £449.000 Rubber £607,000 Non-ferrous metals and manufactures .. £753,000 Exports— Wool £414.000 Non-ferrous metals .. £412,000 Woollen and worsted yarns and manufactures £147,000 The principal decreases were: Imports—Grain and flour £733,000 Exports— Coal £353,000 Cotton yarns and manufactures .. £747,000 Vehicles £987,090 EXPANSION NOTED. British Official Wireless. (Received April 17, 12.40 p.m.) RUGBY, April 16. Further expansion of British overseas trade was disclosed in the Board of Trade returns for March. Of the increase over March, 1933, of £5,618,015 in imports, over £4,000,000 is represented by the increased imports of raw materials, and indicates additional employment in staple industries. In every classification of imports of raw materials and articles mainly unmanufactured, there was an increase last month over March, 1933. For the first three months of the current year the imports are valued at £25,690,789 more than in the corresponding period of last year, but they are £9,620.612 less than in the first three months of 1932. Exports compared for the same three-monthly periods show increases respectively of £5,011,995 and £2,387,333.
