WOMEN’S MISSION UNION.
The monthly meeting of the Sumner Presbyterian Women’s Mission Union was held in the class room, Mrs Shaw presiding over an attendance of sixteen. Mrs Shaw took as her theme the subject of “ Prayer.” Later the Rev W. R. Martin spoke of the need of prayer to strengthen the spiritual life of the church. Mrs Shaw and Mrs Walker gave an account of the luncheon recently given to the Rev M’Neur in the St Paul’s Sunday School, where five Sumner members were present. A circular letter was received from Sister Bruce, of Waimana, asking for money or clothing for that branch of the Maori Mission work, and it was decided to bring in second-hand clothes and to take up a small collection at the next meeting. Two letters from China were read by Mrs Walker. Mrs A. Topping was asked to write to Mrs W. Sherrard conveying the meeting’s sympathy with her in the loss of her brother. the late Dr M’Ara.
