GLUE-WORKERS’ AWARD.
Agreement on Wages Question. The wagts of gelatine and git** facwere discussed in the Conciliation Council this morning. The parties in the dispute were Davis Gelatine (N.Z.), Ltd., Christchurch, aird others; and the Canterbury Freezing \V orks and Related Trades Industrial Lnlon of Workers. The assessors were:—Employers: Miss ®mlth, Messrs W. G. Arneman and D. I. Macdonald; employees: Messrs D. Brown p . Brown, N. P. Johnson and H. C. Revell. The Conciliation Commissioner, Hr S. Ritchie, presided. It was agreed that the payment of singrle male employees should be as folmen on continuous shifts, Is lOd an hour; (b) grease presshands and grease fikermen, Is BJd an hour; (c) shift workers other than those mentioned in clause (a), is BJd an hour; (d) other workers. Is 7|d an hour. The employees agreed to these rates pKOvidea that all extra payments included in the present award were retained. and the employers wished to have the payments deleted. After the employees had retired and considered the employers’ proposals, they announced that they were prepared to agree to the abolition of the extra payments if the employers were willing t oeonsider a slight increase in the wages of workers in classes (c) and to consider a slight increase of id an hour. This would give the employers some reduction in the total amount paid to workers. The employers retired, and announced that they would increase clause (b) to Is 9d an hour, and clause <d) to Is Sd an hour. 1-t was agreed that female workers were to be paid not less than as set out in the Factories Act.
