NEW RECORDS.

SPEED TRIALS HELD AT ADDINGTON. Worthy Queen Successful. AUBURN LAD BEATS ACRON’S TIME. Although Walla Walla failed in his attempt to break his own mile record to-day at Addington, other horses were more successful in creating new figures. Auburn Lad set a New Zealand pacing record for a mile by equalling Walla Walla’s Australian time of 2min 2 2-ssec. Worthy Queen was also successful. She set a new' trotting record for the mile of 2min 2 3-ssec, clipping 6 2-ssec oft the previous best time. In Australia Walla Walla did the mile in 2min 2 2-ssec. His time to-day was 2min 3 4-ssec. The New Zealand pacing record for a mile from a flying start is held by Acron, who registered 2min 2 3-ssec at Addington. What would otherwise have been perfect conditions for record-making were marred by a north-easterly wind, which came in strong gusts. This was against the horse in the run down the straight. There was an attendance of several thousand enthusiasts, who contributed a shilling a head to the Mayor’s Distress Fund and the St John Ambulance Association. Walla Walla was driven by W. M’Kay. Mr A. Symes’s jumper Royal Limond, who earlier in the morning was risking his neck over steeplechase fences at Riccarton, w'as one assistant. He was ridden by A. H. Eastwood and went all the way. Auburn Lad, driven by W. J. Tomkinson; joined in for the last half-mile. Walla Walla went too fast early. He did his first half in 58 4-ssec, and at the six furlongs, done in lmin 29 4-ssec, was still withi nthe 2min gait. He tired very badly and took 34sec for the final quarter-mile. Auburn Lad did his first quarter in 31sec and his first half in lmin lsec. Worthy Queen did her first half-mile in lmin lsec. Auburn Lad, driven by W. M’Kay and paced by the hurdle racer Advance ridden by D. Hall, paced a mile in 2min 2 2-ssec. This is a new record for New Zealand and equals the Australian and New Zealand record created by Walla Walla at Harold Park, Sydney. Two Attempts. Worthy Queen made two attempts on teh record. On the first essay she broke at the end of a furlong. She was brought back and trotted the full mile in fine style, giving a magnificent display. W ortby Queen was paced by Olax (galloping), driven by F. Holmes. Biddy Parrish, driven by W. J.Tomkinson and paced by Advance Camp, trotted a mile in 2min 8 3-ssec. This tune is two-fifths of a second inside the record of 2min 9sec, held by Todd Lonzia, but that figure had, of course, been shattered previouslv by Worthv Queen.
