Dear Sir, —I am glad that you have drawn pointed attention to some of the recommendations of the Economy Commission—recommendations that have been entirely ignored. May I add one other as a pet subject of mine? The Commission reported that inspectorial staffs had grown to the huge number of 801, who, with salaries and travelling expenses, cost the country Ju369,000. The report states that co-ordination on a large scale should be undertaken to avoid such overlapping as occurs with inspectors of machinery and inspectors of factories; and that the personnel should be reduced. This has not been done. I should like to know what inspectors cost this country, for we have an army of municipal inspectors outside the Government.—l am, etc., ON THE BIT
