Noisy Motors on Water.
B Y -LAWS relating to the control of motor-launches and outboard motorboats within Auckland and ‘Manukau harbours were approved at a meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board. Provision is made whereby it will be necessary for owners of motor-launches or outboard motor-boats to attach to the engines efficient silencers. Whether the silencer is efficient or otherwise will be determined by the harbourmaster, and his decision will be final. No mofor-launch or outboard motorboat is to be permitted to be propelled within the limits of the two harbours at a speed greater than five miles an hour when passing through any anchorage for yachts or launches, or when passing within 440 yards of the high-water mark of any part of the foreshore or any harbour work, or on the occasion of any yacht, launch or boat races. The by-law makes provision for the harbourmaster, at his discretion, to suspend its operation in respect of any defined portion of the harbour.
