WORK FOR BOYS.
Employment Committee Meets. The Christchurch Boys’ Employment Committee met yesterday afternoon under the chairmanship of Mr M. E. Lyons, and later on resolved itself into a meeting of Boys’ Training Schemes <lnc.), to deal with the lease of a farm for the training of unemployed boys with an agricultural bent. “The Wellington Boys’ Employment Committee seems to be ahead of us in some ways. It is not placing as many boys In the country as we are,” stated Mr G. M. Keys in tabling the annual report of the Wellington Committee. The report showed that 1269 boys had passed through the committee’s hands, compared with over 1100 in Christchurch. There had been present at the Welfare Committee’s rally only one boy who had attended the previous year, reported Mr A. J. M’Eldowney on behalf of the Welfare Committee. A questionnaire sent to the boys indicated that more were obtaining permanent or temporary positions.
