SPARTAN GIRLS.

Training for University Boat Race. The training of the girl undergraduates selected for the Oxford and Cam bridge boat race Mae almost as strenuous as that of the male crews. Miss Box, who rowed stroke for the Oxford boat, told the “News Chronicle” that orders for the weeks prior to the race were: Bed at 10.30, no smoking, no sweets, no cakes, no drinks between meals, rowing every day. The Cambridge girl “wet bobs” trained for the race on these lines: 7 a.m.: Out of bed (cold tub advised). 7.30: Parade for sharp walk. 8.0: Breakfast—mainly egg s and fruit. Morning: Lectures. 2 p.m.: Boathouses for tubbing before going out in the eights. 10.30: Bed. General orders: No smoking, cocoa at night, avoid stuffy rooms. The penalty for breaking rules was expulsion from the eight. The girls had to undergo a medical examination before the race took place.
