Another Tax.
Protest Over Telegraph Charges. Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, April 13. 'jMIE NEW SCALE of telegraph charges was subjected to criticism by the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce, and it was decided to support the protest by the Dunedin Chamber recently forwarded to the Postmaster-General. Members resented the idea of being penalised inequitably because of geographical position, which they contended, made the scale of charges to southerners higher than was the* case of, say, Wellington, with a consequent increase in business expenses. It amounts almost to another tax,” •said the chairman (Mr C. B. Tapley). 44 and there is too much taxation already.”
