IN NEW ROLE.
Ruth Chatterton Coining to
Crystal Palace.
“ Happy Ever After ” will conclude its season at the Crystal Palace Theatre to-night. It is safe to say that admirers of Ruth Chatterton—and they are legion —will flock to see her latest film, “ Female.” which will open at the Crystal Palace Theatre to-morrow. The story of the film is extremely, effective in its dramatic content. It shows Ruth Chatterton as the head of a huge motor factory. She is very efficient and sure of herself. Her great quality of attractiveness is the cause of a reversal of the situation traditionally found in an office where there is a man in charge and with him pretty stenographers; she is pestered with money-designing men, but she shows them that she has the upper hand of such situations. Outside of her office she continues to show her emancipation by a calculated imitation of the private affairs of Catherine the Great. This goes on until she meets one certain man. From then on there is a great deal of exciting action rising to a fine climax. George Brent, who also played with her in “ The Crash,” “ Lily Turner ” and “ The Rich Are Always With Us,” has the leading masculine role. Ruth Donnelly, former stage favourite, who made an outstanding “ hit ” in " Blessed Event ” and “ Hard to Handle,” has an important comedy role. Johnny Mack Brown and Phillip Reed appear as Ruth Chatterton’s lovers, as also does Gavin Gordon. Box plans at the D.I.C.
