LAWN TENNIS.

United Club Championship to Rhodes-Williams. The final of the United Lawn Tennis Club’s singles championship was plaved last evening, when T. Rhodes-Wl Ilia ms defeated A. R. Cant. 5-7. 6-3, 3-6 6-0, 9-7. It was a brilliant match, considering the low bounce of the ball, plaved mainly from the baseline. Both men served well. Cant was on the defensive for the greater part of the last two sets and lost his chance when he dropped a 3-2 lead on his own service. This was the last match of the season and probably no other championship has ever been decided so late in the season. Cashmere Club. Many of the finals at the Cashmere Tennis Club have been decided. In the mixed doubles championship final Mrs Dougall and R. Browning defeated Mrs Williams and W. Deans. 6-3, 6-4. Ln the women’s doubles championship final, Mrs Beaufort an<L Miss W. Cooper beat Mjsses C. Reese and I. Wright, 4-6, 7-5. Men’s doubles championship final—D. G. GlanviJle and A. Derbidge beat W. Deans and W. Angas, 6-4, 4-6. 6- Men’s doubles handicap final—W. Deans and W. Angas (owe 40) beat J. Myers and T. Young (owe 15 4-6), 7-5, 7- Mixed doubles handicap final— Miss E. Bowron and R. A. Young (owe 40) beat Miss E. Inwood and J. Inwood (owe 15 4-6). 6-3, 6-4. A progressive tournament was held last Tuesday to mark the closing of the grass courts, and resulted in a win for Misses Mantan and E. Bowron.
