FILM TRADE WAR.
Small Exhibitors Combine in England. LONDON, April 6. The smaller cinematograph exhibitors in Britain are combining to resist the demands of renters for popular “ talkies.” Renters booking films ask from 35 to 50 per cent of the boxoffice receipts, an extreme case being 60 per cent. Exhibitors are now manding that the maximum shall be 40 per cent of the takings, to which renters are retaliating with a threat to cut off supplies of films. The smaller exhibitors emphasise that they are subjected to competition from the big circuits, which obtain films for 25 per cent of the ta.kings, or even less.
