SOLD WHISKY.

Charge Heard -Against Auctioneer. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 12. On a charge of selling whisky without .a license, Eric Johnston, a licensed auctioneer, was convicted and fined £ls by Mr E. Page, J5.M., in a reserved judgment to-day. The case resulted from the sale, by one of defendant’s storemen, of two bottles of whisky to two men who represented the Wellington Licensed Victuallers’ Association. Johnston’s defence was that he had no knowledge of the transaction and was not responsible for the act of a servant. In evidence, he stated that he had instructed his staff that whisky must not be sold privately. Security for appeal was fixed at ten guineas.
