SOMME GALLANTRY RECALLED.—To cement a friendship based on the heroic feat of arms of the Australian forces at Villers Bretonneux (Somme) in 1918, in stopping the German offensive, the French village has been “ adopted ”by Melbourne. The French commemorated the saving of the town on Sunday. The illustration shows a similar function held earlier, the laying of the foundation stone of a school, the gift of the children of Victoria to the children of the village.
