Presentation Made to Lodge Secretary. In order to pay a tribute to Mr H. E. Morgan, J.P., who has been secretary of the Loyal Pgpanui Lodge, 1.0.0. F., M.U., for the past fifty years, a social evening was held in the Papanui Memorial Hall last evening, when the presentation of a framed photograph was made to Mr Morgan. Mr Morgan, who is 75 years of age, was born at Hadleigh. Suffolk, in 1359, and came to Canterbury with his mother in the Derwent Water in 1861. F., M.U., North Canterbury District, on September 10, 1880. at Papanui. On the opening night there were ten members, and of these he is the only one remaining a member to-day. Mr Morgan has been continually in office since joining the lodge. In 1884 he was elected secretary, and has held that position ever since. Cole, District G.M.; Brother A. Gow, P.D.G.M.; and Brother R. Merriman, District Treasurer. Excellent Work for Order. In proposing the health of the guest of the evening Mr W. J. Mulholland said that no doubt all considered the honour of P.P.G.M. to be the highest to be obtained in the Order, but Brother Morgan had attained a greater distinction in having been secretary for fifty years. In making a presentation of a framed photograph of the recipient, Mr Frank. Sisson, one of the oldest members of the lodge, said Brother Morgan’s ability and honesty had never been surpassed. t Mr Morgan, in reply, said that his years of work had been a pleasure. Everyone needed a hobby and his had been secretaryship. He traced the history of the lodge and thanked all for the honour done him. Other toasts were honoured.
