OLD MAN ATTACKED.

, Brutal Assault During Night. Per Press Association. TAURANGA, April 10. Between eight and nine o’clock last r.ight, a brutal attack was made on an old man, William Young, aged seventynine years, who resides alone in a whare about four miles on the Tauranga side of Katikati. He was just going to bed when he heard someone enter the whare and called out, thinking it was someone he knew, but was violently attacked by the intruder with a pair of harness hames. He was severely beaten about the head and hands. After dealing about twenty blows, the assailant decamped. The old man crawled along' the road to his son’s residence and was then taken to Dr Stenhouse, of Katikati, and this afternoon was brought to the Tauranga Hospital by the St John Ambulance. He is suffering from concussion, a fractured skull and injured hands. The police are investigating.
