RAILWAYS MAGAZINE.
The first anniversary of the reorganisation of the “ New Zealand Railways Magazine ” into a national monthly is marked by a change to a larger quarto size which permits a more impressive display of the various features. The April issue gives New Zealanders farranging views of their country, past and present. Continuing his series of “ Famoqs New Zealanders,” Mr James Cowan brightly describes the career of Edward Tregear. Mr Ken Alexander, whose sparkling hi*mour mingles shrewd philosophy with delightful drollery, has let himself merrily loose on 44 The Part of Art,” with illustrations by himself. “The Romantic,” by Misp Isabel Andrews, was awarded first prize in the New Zealand Women Writers' and Artists’ Society’s senior detective story competition for 1933. Miss Elsie K. Morton, a well-known writer, has a charming article on Fiordland. In S. Odell gives some very interesting glimpses of history connected with place-nafes of the Arthur’s Pass National Park. Mr C. A. L. Treadwell, in 44 The Trial of Charles Clements.” presents a vivid chronicle of a crime of 1597. _________
