WORK IN COUNTRY.
Girls Unwilling to Take
Positions
That girls seeking domestic work were unwilling to take country positions, believing them to be lonely and miserable, was a statement in a letter from the Home Service Association received at the annual meeting of the North Canterbury Federation of Women’s Institutes to-day. The letter said that it was becoming increasingly difficult to get girls to accept domestic work in the country, and asked if the institutes could do something towards making conditions more pleasant and attractive for girls intending to work, in the country. After a short discussion, in which the view was expressed that it was the duty of institutes to help the girls, it was decided that each institute should form a welfare committee to interest girls in sports activities and provide them with other forms of recreation.
