LYTTELTON BOROUGH.

Credit Balance on Year’s Working. The Lyttelton Borough Council met last evening; present—the Mayor (Mr \\. T. Lester), and Councillors R. Fenton, D. E. L Collett, G. Ualliday. A. G. Sinclair, A. H. Fovvles, J. N. Neville. E Green, W. D. Gower and A. T. E. Miller. Mr G. F. Whitesides was appointed to represent the council on the Christchurch Domains Board. On the recommendation of the Water Committee, the council decided that the restrictions imposed for the use of water for gardens be removed, and that the usual hours. 6 to 8 a.m. and 6 to 8 p m., be reverted to. The chairman and engineer were instructed to submit a report on the lighting on Reserve Terrace and Randolph Terrace, also on the minimum charges for current, on the motion of Councillor A. G. Sinclair, it was decided that a light be erected at the corner of Reserve and Randolph Terraces. A secondnand dealer’s license was granted to Mr A. A. Swaby. It was agreed that a sub-committee, consisting of tl.e Mayor, the Town Clerk (Mr F. Hobbs) and Councillor Fowles, he appointed to interview a number of petitioners and other unemployed men regarding the adjustment of their rates •The chairman of the Finance Committee (Councillor Collett) reported that the receipts and expenditure for the past, twelve monlhs showed a credit balance of £BS2 4d on the year’s working. The overdraft at the bank had been reduced from £2338 5s to £1475 19s Bd. The balance-sheet would not be completed for another month. This balance did not represent the position as at the end of the financial year.
