S.P.C.A. HAS MEETING.
The Canterbury Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals met last evening. Mr A. W. M’GilliVray presiding. The inspector (Mr D. J. White) reported having given twelve warnings, and in one case taken a prosecution, a conviction being secured. On the motion of Mr MacGilllvray, it was decided that a rule be incorporated in the constitution that no person in receipt of salary, wages or honorarium from the society’s funds would be eligible for election as a member of the general committee. The inspector reported that at a recent clearing sale at Alford Forest he had noticed a dog with its leg strapped tight into its collar. This was an offence, and he brought it before the committee, as he had not noticed a similar case in twenty years. It had been at one time a regular practice.
