WAITING FOR JUNE.
Britain and Expiry of Ottawa Agreements. BEEF PRODUCERS COMPLAIN. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, April 5 Commenting on the beef producing industry Mr Stanley Baldwin, Lord President of the Council, wrote a letter to the Worcestershire Farmers’ Union admitting that beef prices remained unsatisfactory. Mr Baldwin claimed that, within the limits of international and inter-imper-ial obligations, the Government had taken more drastic steps to reduce imports than anyone would have thought possible eighteen months ago. Those steps had prevented a more catastrophic fall cf prices. “It should be borne in mind,” he said, “that an entirely new factor will operate in June, when the Ottawa meat agreements with the dominions end.” The chairman of the meeting at which the letter was received, complained that the only result of cutting South American imports had been to encourage Canadian and New Zealand producers to flood the market.
