FAREWELL SOCIAL.

Rev F. Greenwood Retires From Ministry. The Rev and Mrs Fred Greenwood were farewelled at the Linwood Methodist Church on Tuesday evening, when Mr C. W. Francis presided over a large gathering. After forty years’ service in the Methodist ministry, Mr Greenwood is retiring from active work. For the past four years, Mr Greenwood has been in charge of the Linwood, Richmond and Marshland Churches. All the speakers referred to Mr Greenwood’s splendid service wherever he had been stationed. Following were the speakers:—The Rev E. Drake (chairman of the Christchurch East circuit), Mr A. G. Williams (Richmond Methodist Church and local preachers), Mr M. Kershaw (East Beit Methodist Church and circuit stewards), the Rev S. Bailey (New Brighton Methodist Church), Mrs C. W. Francis (Linwood Ladies’ Guild), Mr D. Worsfold (Linwood Trust Board), Mr S. Harrington (Sunday school, choir and Scouts), Mr T. Granger (church stewards). Mr Francis presented Mr and Mrs Greenwood with a cheque, and Mis Greenwood was the recipient of a bouquet of violets. Musical items were given by Mesdames Cameron and Horsley and Miss H. Smith. Mr and Mrs Greenwood, who will reside in Wellington, left Christchurch by the inter-island steamer last night.
