RODE ROUND BAR.
Man Sent to Gaol for Assault. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 28. Stated bv his counsel to have gone to the Antarctic with the Byrd expedition, Peter Bardebes, 22 years of age, a wool buyer, was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment by Mr E. Page, S.M., to-day, for assaulting William H. Bearman in the bar of the Trentham racecourse on October 19 last. Bearman was a barman at Trentham and accused entered and rode round the bar on Bearman s bicycle When Bearman protested, Bardebes struck him to the ground, and later it was found that Bearman had a slight fracture of the skull. Counsel said that Bardebes and some other young men had won on the first race. Thev went into the bar and remained there for the rest of the day. The Magistrate said that no doubt Bardebes had not intended to inflict injury, but he had been twice before the Court for assault and fighting.
