NEWS FROM THE PORT.

Women’s Tennis Title is Decided. The final of the Te Whaka Tennis Club’s women’s championship doubles for Mrs J. D. Bundy's Cup, was won by Misses P. and J. Shavle-George, who beat Misses Z. Neville and Z. Bowling, 6-3, 6-3. Successful Concert. The excellent programme arranged by the Lyttelton sub-centre of St John Ambulance Association attracted what almost was a “full house’’ at the Harbour Light Theatre last evening. The concert was to raise funds for the subcentre and a satisfactory amount was realised. Mr David M’Gill, tenor, and Mr John Campbell, concertina player, are always warm favourites at Lyttelton, and they delighted the audience with their respective offerings. Mr Les Stuart, baritone, sang pleasingly and he was assisted in a comedy-patter turn by wee Georgie Stuart. Hawaiian melodies were played by Miss Elaine Moody and her band of instrumentalists, and they had to respond to insistent recalls. Miss Cecily Audibert, soprano, sang pleasingly and Miss Agnes Shearsbv gave excellent pianoforte solos. Mr George Titchener. well-known as a radio entertainer, gave humorous songs and patter. Violin solos were played bv Mr David Mitchell. The concert concluded with a community “sing” led by Mr Titchener, with Dr F. A’Court at the piano.
