C.Y.C. CAMP.
Training to be Carried Out at Waipara. A large number of officers and men are expected to attend the Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry’s camp at Waipara, beginning on April 9. Arrangements have been made for 190 men and 20 officers. The regiment is organised into three squadrons and a machine-gun troop, and the men are drawn from the country lying between the Conway River in the north and the Waitaki in the south. On the first day, mounted drill wii! be carried out, and on the following days troop and squadron tactics. A regimental field day will be held on the final day. The unit will be inspected on April 13 by Major-General Sir William Sinclair-Burgess, General Officer Commanding the New Zealand Forces. A comprehensive programme will ce carried out by the machine-gun troop, covering all branches of action from the pack with ball ammunition to night firing with tracer ammunition. A period will be set aside for jumping, tent-pegging and other trials of horsemanship. Band and campfire concerts will be held in the evenings, and a dance on April 14. A sports meeting will Le held on the afternoon of April 15. Major L. R. C. Macfarlane will he in command, with Major 11. G. Livingstone as second in command and Captain K. J. Walker as adjutant.. Lieutenant 11. Gladstone Hill will be in chaige of a regimental band of thirty players. The camp site, on the south bank of the Waipara River, has been lent by Messrs G. Page and 11. O. D. Meares. The camping-ground is dry and well drained, with an ample water supply available, and there is a suitable area for field training.
