CORSAIR BAY BACHES.
Borough Council Will Enforce Regulations. In the Lyttelton Court to-day, James Potts was proceeded against by the Lyttelton Borough Council, before Mr 11. A. Young, S.M., on charges of failing to give notice of his intention to erect a building at Corsair Bay. Defendant was also charged that, before beginning to erect a building, he failed to submit a plan. He was further charged with failing to pay to the Borough Council the requisite fee. Mr H. H. Barnard, engineer to the Lyttelton Borough Council, gave evidence that the building erected did not comply with the council’s by-laws. For the defendant, Mr Archer contended that the proposed building was superior in many respects to several of the existing baches at Corsair Bay, to which no exception had been taken by Mr Barnard, and one of which had formerly been a cowshed and was at present inhabited. Mr L. J. Hemsley, for the Borough Council, stated that the council had laid a line of demarcation in respect to the erection of baches, and persons desirous of building at Corsair Bay must submit their plans for the ap.proyal of the council. A somewhat similar case had been before the Court a year ago, proving that the council uould not permit the erection of buildings without the observance of the by-laws. Further hearing of the case was adjourned until May 2, to permit the defendant to confer with the council to see if the building could be altered to its*, satisfaction.
