RANELAGH DOOMED?

King Withdraws Patronage From Club. COMMERCIALISM RESENTED. United P/ess Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received March 2S, 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, March 27. The fate of Ranelagh, the world’s most famous and most exclusive social and sporting club, is in the balance, says the “ Daily Mail.” The King’s patronage lias been withdrawn and every member of the Royal Family has severed his connection with the club. The real crux of the trouble is the new chairman, Mr Holland Martin’s intimation to the shareholders that, in addition to being the best in London, the club must also earn dividends, which is distasteful to many of the members, reducing the club to the level of an American roadhouse. On top of this controversy hangs the threat that London’s new Socialist rulers will take over the grounds of Ranelagh and Hurlingham for housing purposes.
