In spite of the fact that the chief function of interviews and deputations met by Cabinet Ministers is to make complaints and seek improvements, there are times when Ministers receive pleasant surprises. After a tiring day of deputations at New Plymouth, Mr A. E. Ransom, Minister of Lands, was approached by a Crown tenant, who invited him to visit his section. He wanted the Minister to see the success he had made of his farm with the department’s aid, and then to express his gratitude to the officials of the department, who had helped him to make a happy home.
