ESPIONAGE.
FRENCH REVELATION OF PLOT. Large Gang at Work. MANY ARRESTS MADE AND MORE TO FOLLOW. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received March 21, 12.50 p.m.) PARIS, March 20. The espionage investigation, which resulted in eighteen arrests on December 21 last, is developing into what the French police describe as the biggest sensation in the history of gang spying. The police activities are likely eventually to involve 200 arrests. The confessions of the Americans, Robert Switz and his wife, who were arrested in December, show that an international gang supplied with unlimited money was working for Germany and Russia, to the detriment of Britain, France and the United States. After speaking to Switz the police rounded up suspects and arrested sixteen. They discovered a code conveying information of vital importance relative to the industrial mobilisation of France and a record of payments to French officers and engineers. The official documents obtained by the gang were sent to Switzerland, where they were copied and sent on to Moscow and Berlin. The trial of the prisoners is expected to begin in July.
